Hunt for an Ornament

Loveland’s Winter Holiday Council is seeking an artist to design its 31st annual cast pewter Christmas ornament, which will be sold to fund the council’s planned decoration of the city this winter.
Fine line drawings, photographs and sculptures submitted before Feb. 21 will be considered for the contest. The winning artist will receive a $500 prize and the first ornament cast, and their signature will be stamped on the back of every ornament. They will also be able to buy ornaments at cost for their own use.
An announcement by the group says themes may be “religious or secular, serious or funny or showing something significant to the Loveland area community at the holiday season.''
Designs must be able to fit within a 3-by-5-inch box and be no more than 1/4-inch thick. They should also include the words “Merry Christmas,” “2020” and either “Loveland, Colorado” or “Loveland, CO.”
Finished ornaments will be cast in fine silver bearing pewter, antiqued, hand-buffed and boxed. The clear top display box will include a card from the winning artist with their biography and an artistic statement. A ribbon to hang the ornament also will be included.
Submissions should first be sent as a JPG file to WinterHolidayCouncil@gmail.com with “2020 LOVELAND ORNAMENT SUBMISSION” as the subject line and their name, contact information and the size of their design in the email body.
Clinebell said the council will announce a winner by March 1. A complete, sculpted version of the design must be available by March 15.
